Farewell Muletown

We left our beloved Muletown last Tuesday. Although we were sad to go we were mostly excited for what was to come. We weren’t very impressed with the first couple of days. The three days consisted of continuous and exhausting traveling. The first travel day ended up being about 10 hours in total. That’s one heck of a lot of traveling if you ask me even if I did sleep most of the day. I am sure we threatened to kill one another once or twice. On hour two my dad said, ” I think we are going to find out how bad our country’s infrastructure really is.” As he said this I looked behind us to see our RV bouncing all over the road. The mid-west sure does have some bumpy roads. At hour three or four we needed to stop for fuel. We learned the lesson to expect the unexpected when we pulled up to find the Flying J we were supposed to be stopping at in ashes. Do not worry though, there was a Love’s right across the street. That night we stayed at the Cottenwood RV park in Columbia, MO. We traveled from Columbia to Columbia on that first day.  How ironic. The next day it was time to head on again. Of course, as we were about to leave, tragedy struck. My mom ended up breaking one of our slides in the RV. Luckily for us there was a Camping World right next door. We spent our morning sitting in the floor of a Camping World customer lounge. I am pretty glad we did that though, because we met our first friend. She was an older lady who loved traveling and had been doing it for years by herself. She was awesome, but sadly we never learned her name. Finally, we got back on the road and headed towards Nebraska. The road we took leading into Nebraska greatly annoyed my family and me. Another bumpy road it was. It was very difficult for me to drink my strawberry and banana smoothie I had just gotten from the Pilot we stopped at. That travel day was just like the previous one. I did get to sit in the front seat, which was nice. Sorry for stealing your seat Mom. That night we stayed in an RV park that had been around since the 70’s which was pretty cool. I also drove the tank, as Thaeron likes to call it, for the first time. The third day we finally reached our first little destination, Chimney Rock.

We stayed at Chimney rock for three days. If you did not know it is located in what we call Nowhere, Nebraska. THERE IS NOTHING THERE BESIDES THE ROCK. Because there was not much to do, besides look at the rock, we took those days to organize the RV a little bit. It was a mess, but we got it figured out. The closest town was Scott’s Bluff which was around 30 to 40 minutes away. We went there two different days. The first time was to go to the store and to eat at this rad pizza joint, Sam and Louie’s. Their calzones were amazing! The second day we went to get my mom’s  bike fixed and drive through some of the bluffs. The RV park we stayed at was very small and only one other person was staying there, but their strawberry cheesecake ice cream was delicious. One night there was a huge storm that was very scary. Oliver got some awesome videos of the lightning. The absolute worst thing about our stay there had to be the mosquitoes. There were millions. Mosquitoes are evil. Soon the three days were up and it was time to move on to South Dakota. While in Nebraska we learned two things; (1) You don’t eat the frogs there, they eat you. (2) Apparently shade is illegal as there is none. The drive to South Dakota went smoothly, and before I knew it we had arrived in the Badlands. ( Fun fact; they are called the Badlands because of their lack of water.)

Here I am, Sitting on my bed, all the windows open, breeze glorious, typing this blog. It is Wednesday, June 13th, 2018, 1:30 pm. My mom and I decided to stay home while the rest of our family went on a hike today.  We have been in the Badlands since Sunday, and tomorrow we leave for the Black Hills. The Badlands have been fun! We even made some friends. The night that we got here we ended up playing Frisbee with the family next door. They were kind, and were from right outside of Chicago. They actually live in the same neighborhood as Lake Forest, which is the college my cousin is going to. ( Hi Emma. ) My mom also made a friend named Jen. She left yesterday, and she loves to travel. She was cool. Eleanor also made a friend on her first day, I met her and her siblings and ended up talking to them until 10:15 last night,. They were from Wisconsin and were very nice people. The RV park we are in has a spectacular view of the Badlands from a distance. We have done lots of hiking the past two days. Something that I like about it here is you can get off of the trail and just climb the rocks if you so desire. The hiking spots are great and this place has wonderful views. Yesterday after we went on a hike, I drove again!! Something cool about this place is that the winds here are insane. Their normal speed is 25 to 30 mph. I was hoping that they weren’t going to pick us up and throw us into the sky like the house in The Wizard of OZ.  I personally really enjoyed the Badlands and can not wait to see what else is to come. Thanks for reading!!!!
